The books deals with a handful of ancillary tales surrounding the main story of Mahabharat. As a translator of the Mahabharata, unabridged or edited, you do not have the leeway or license to excise the more adult-themed material from the epic. The one who holds the thread, that’s what it means. With her, the childlike innocence of Krita Yug started slowly giving way to the gritter Treta and ‘The thread twirls and brings us to a queen of this land, whose story closely mirrors Shakuntala’s.

I was gently ridiculed for not understanding it was “palimpsest” and supposedly it is common in graphical novels. Completing high school wouldn’t have been such a bad idea after all. Adi Parva is based on the Mahabharata and the tradition of oral storytellers.

The cast includes our ancestors — gods, demigods, queens, sages, seers, seductresses, hermits, kings, warriors, and navigators of the multiverse.
